Terms & conditions

These terms apply to every order placed with cakeisland, whether through the shop, the quote form, email or Instagram. Placing an order means you accept them. If anything here is unclear, ask us before you pay — we would much rather talk it through.

1 · Orders and confirmation

Every cake is made to order. An order exists once we have sent you a written confirmation and received your deposit — not before. The confirmation lists the date, size, flavour, finish and price, and it is the document we bake from. Please read it carefully and tell us straight away if anything is wrong.

We ask for at least three days' notice on single-tier cakes and cupcakes, and two weeks on tiered and wedding cakes. Shorter notice is sometimes possible — ask.

2 · Prices and payment

Prices are in Norwegian kroner and include VAT. Quotes are valid for 30 days. A non-refundable deposit of 30% secures your date; the balance is due no later than three days before collection or delivery, and wedding balances are due two weeks before the date.

Dates are only held once the deposit has been paid. We can only bake a limited number of cakes each week, so unpaid dates are released to other customers.

3 · Changes and cancellation

Changes to flavour, size, message or design can usually be made up to seven days before your date, and two weeks before for wedding cakes. Later changes depend on what we have already bought and started.

Because every cake is made to your specification and is perishable, the statutory right of withdrawal does not apply. If you cancel more than 14 days ahead, you lose the deposit only. Within 14 days we charge 50% of the total, and within 72 hours the full amount, as the ingredients are bought and the time is reserved.

4 · Collection and delivery

Collection times are agreed in advance. Please bring a flat boot or footwell and drive gently — cakes do not enjoy corners. Delivery is quoted by distance and is charged separately.

Someone over 18 must be at the delivery address to receive the cake. If nobody is there and we cannot reach you, we may return the cake to the bakery and charge a second delivery. For venues, we agree a delivery window with the venue in advance and hand the cake to a named member of staff.

5 · Allergens and ingredients

Our kitchen handles wheat, eggs, dairy, nuts, soya and sesame. We take allergies seriously and will tell you honestly what we can and cannot promise, but we cannot guarantee that any cake is completely free from traces of an allergen.

Tell us about allergies and intolerances when you order, not afterwards. Decorations such as flowers, dowels, wires, ribbons and cake toppers are not edible and must be removed before serving; fresh flowers are food-safe varieties, rinsed and wrapped, unless agreed otherwise.

6 · Design and expectations

Cakes are made by hand, so no two are identical. Reference photos are a guide to style, not a promise of an exact copy, and we will not reproduce another baker's design outright — we will make our own version of it. Colours can vary between screens and buttercream, and deep shades take time to develop; we will always tell you when a colour is difficult.

Sketches, descriptions and quotes remain our property and are provided to give you an idea of the finished cake.

7 · Care after collection

Once a cake has been collected or handed over, responsibility for it passes to you or the venue. Keep it level, cool and out of direct sun, and follow the storage and serving notes we send with it. We cannot accept liability for damage that happens after handover, including cakes moved, stacked, refrigerated or displayed by a venue.

8 · Photography

We photograph our cakes before they leave and may use those photographs on our website and social media. Tell us if you would rather we did not, and we will keep yours private.

9 · If something is wrong

Tell us within 24 hours and, where possible, send photographs and return the remaining cake. If we have genuinely got something wrong we will put it right — a partial or full refund, or a replacement. Our liability is limited to the value of the order. Complaints about a cake that has been almost entirely eaten are difficult for both of us to judge fairly.

10 · Things outside our control

In the event of illness, power failure, equipment breakdown, extreme weather or other circumstances beyond our control, we will contact you as soon as we can and offer a replacement date, an alternative baker where possible, or a full refund of everything you have paid. That refund is the limit of our liability in such cases.

11 · Your data

We keep your name, contact details, delivery address and order notes only to fulfil your order and meet our accounting obligations. We do not sell your details to anyone. You can ask us to show, correct or delete what we hold at any time.

These terms are governed by Norwegian law. We may update them from time to time; the version that applies to your order is the one published on the day you confirmed it.
